Campbeltown Community Business

Formed in September 1987 especially to buy and run The Picture House, Campbeltown Community Business ("CCB") raised thousands of pounds to renovate and re-equip it. The Picture House re-opened on 26 May 1989, seventy six years to the day after its life first began, and is now looking forward to its centenary in 2013.

As a charity, CCB is able to raise funds that would have not been available to private ownership. Grants have enabled refurbishment of the street-facing elements and auditorium roof of the Wee Pictures, as the cinema is often called. However, the increasing costs and problems involved in maintaining a building of that age present a challenge: with so many good causes around, funds for a cinema are difficult to find, even though it is a cinema that is run, owned and operated by the community. CCB is very fortunate that many of the people of Campbeltown and elsewhere have joined the membership scheme and continue to make donations over and above their membership subscription.
